Giuseppe Natoli

Giuseppe Natoli , Baron of Scaliti, Patrizio di Messina (June 9, 1815 – September 25, 1867), was an Italian statesman, patriot and a leading figure in the movement toward Italian unification.
After the declaration of a united Kingdom of Italy, the Baron Natoli was called immediately to took office as the first with the Prime Minister of Italy Camillo Benso Cavour and next with La Marmora. He was the promoter of several economic reforms in Italy.
He became the close and valued advisor of the Count Camillo Benso di Cavour, ''"the man who made Italy"'' because was the italian statesman and leading figure in the movement towards the Italian unification,〔( Giorgio Dell'Arti, ''Cavour: Vita dell'uomo che fece l'Italia'', publishing Marsilio Editore, 2015, Venice, Italy )〕 and for this reason he was also called ''the gray cardinal''.
== Biography ==
The Baron Giuseppe Natoli was also a banker, a Senator, a lawyer, a jurist, business magnate, venture capitalist, philanthropist and mayor of Messina.〔(Biographies of Encyclopedia Treccani )〕
Native of a French noble family, son of the noble Colonel Giacomo (James) Natoli Gongora of Scaliti (official of the royal Bourbon armies ), knight for law of the Royal Military Order of Saint George and Reunion and Emanuela Cianciolo, brother of Bartolomeo, Vincenzo, Girolama Natoli Maugeri and Luigi.
In 1853, Giuseppe Natoli was the founder and investor of the Italian National Bank (Banca Nazionale degli Stati, next "Banca d'Italia"), and the venture capitalist of the shipyard company of Orlando Family, the "Cantieri Orlando",〔http://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/natoli-gongora-di-scaliti-giuseppe_(Dizionario_Biografico)/〕 which it became one of the business families protagonists of the "Italian Risorgimento" and of the industrialization process of the all country of Italy.
He was also Secretary of State (Minister) for Foreign Affairs (government of Garibaldi in Sicily, 27 June-10 July 1860), Professor of Law at the University of Palermo, Deputy of "Camera dei Comuni (Sicily)" (1848-1849), Governor of Brescia (16 July 1861), Prefect of Siena (22 June-6 July 1862).
He dies in Messina the September 25, 1867, victim of the epidemic of cholera, which had come sacrificing to bring comfort to their fellow citizens.〔Gerardo Rizzo, "Il colera del 1867 a Messina: prime indagini", in ''Archivio Storico Messinese'', n. 74, 1997, pp. 94, 105-106 (on line )〕
He married with Maria Cardile, which he will have to son Giacomo Natoli, was three times mayor of Messina and father of Vincenzo.
